Cavachon Going Home

Ready to ride to my new home after a long day of flying

This is the beginning of my blog, so I thought I would start at the beginning…….

I was born in Altoona, Iowa.  My mom, a Bichon Frise, was Belinda.  My Dad, a King Charles Cavalier, was Xavior.  I really don’t remember either of them or the place that I was born.  Everything that I know from my early weeks I have learned from my adoptive parents, Lori and Greg (henceforth referred to as “mom” and “dad.”)

I was adopted over the internet – can you believe that!?  I am told that I was chosen from many Cavachon puppies in many locations because I looked like I had that “special something.”  Something drew my new family to me, and I have to tell you, it was a perfect fit!

My journey to my new home took place when I was exactly 8 weeks old (which is the minimum age for a Cavachon puppy – or any puppy for that matter – to fly.)  It was supposed to take about 8 hours, but ended up taking double that.  I was brought  to the airport in Des Moine before sunrise and was supposed to be getting on a flight a couple of hours later.  Well, that flight was delayed.  A very nice man in the cargo office spotted me and took me under his wing until I was rescheduled for another flight.  He really gave me the VIP (Very Important Pup) treatment!  He got me fresh water, gave me some of the food my breeders had sent with me,  and even looked up my arrival information and called my new mom to tell her what was going on.  I heard him tell her that “the cutest puppy he has ever seen was sitting on his desk “and that he would personally take care of me until I was safely on my way home!  He was such a nice man.  I admit, I was a little bit afraid that he was going to kidnap me!  I was so anxious to meet my new parents.

Well, I did eventually get on an airplane.  It was a little scary because I was not used to being alone.  I went to sleep.  Before I knew it, I was being moved around.  I thought I must be at my new home.   However, before long, I was in flight again!   A plane change in Detroit!  Off to sleep again.  Then, the next thing I knew, some lady was softly calling to me……..she reached into my crate (which smelled really bad by now – but she did not seem to notice) and very gently picked me up.  I knew this was my new mom!  I was home!  I also met my new dad and brother!  They all took turns holding me and it was so wonderful!  All of this happened right at the airport.  Even the airport attendants could not stop talking about me and what a good boy I was (they talked about how cute I was, too, but I don’t want to brag.)

By now it was dark outside again, and even though I had slept so much all day, I slept in my mom’s arms all the way to our house.  It was the start of a whole new life for me.  I was used to cuddling up with my brothers and sisters and missed them a little bit.  My new mom had a great stuffed puppy for me that was bigger than me and really soft and fluffy.  I could snuggle up to it and really be comforted when I was feeling any anxiety!

Fast forward to March 2010…..I am 1 year and 9 months old.  I reside in a city called Cuyahoga Falls in the state of Ohio.  I have seen leaves fall from the trees just for me so that I can chase them.   Then, snow covers everything and really fools me with being able to be walked on at times, and at other times giving way and burying me completely!  Next thing I know, everything starts blooming and growing and turning green.  This has been a little confusing, but I am starting to get the pattern.  Amidst all of this change going on outside, I have felt nothing but love inside!

After this long initial post, my mom wanted me to tell you that although a Cavachon puppy may be a little hard to come by sometimes, we make the best pet in the world!   Also, future posts will follow more of my day to day stuff – including eating and “eliminating”, grooming routines, toys, cute antics and photos.

I would also like to talk about things that other Cavachon owners, perspective owners, or fans may want to hear about.  So, please use the “contact us” link with thoughts or questions.

‘Til next time…….

I see you are located in Cuyahoga Falls, are you able to contact me about a post that I’m asking to have removed as I believe it is fraudulent and untrue as well as slanderous?

My name is Cozmo and I am one of Casey’s friends. I am 8 1/2 months old now and completely house broken, I sleep in my crate all night and also go there when my mom leaves for long periods, lately she has been letting me loose if she is just going to the store or someplace where she will return from in a hour or less, she usually gives me a chew treat to keep me busy and so far I have been very good while she is gone. I have to go in my crate if she is going to be gone for a long time but I don’t mind she leaves me by the glass door so I can watch the birds outside and she leaves the tv on so I have company and I am happy. When she is home I like to keep her busy playing fetch, but then I also love sitting on her lap having a nice massage or being brushed. I know she loves me because I get lots of hugs and good treats too, If the weather is good we take long walks and I love all the crazy smells I find while we are walking, I also like meeting new people and dogs although if the other dog is really big it scares me a little. Hope all of you other Cav’s have it as good as I do what a wonderful life.

Hi Cozmo! I remember you! I am glad to hear all is well. My mom has told me several times that she now knows where the saying “a dog’s life” comes from and what it means. We do have it good, don’t we?

    Hi Kasey!
I’m new to your site, but just wanted to say hi! My boyfriend and I are adopting a little sable and white girl Cavachon named Riley all the way out in California (We live in North Carolina), and will be going out to get her when she’s 12 weeks old. I actually was wondering how much you weighed when you were a little puppy, and how much you weigh now. Riley’s parents are 15 and 16 lbs, so we were expecting her to be right around that size, but we’ve seen some pictures of Cavachons that are much bigger. I’m mostly wondering because we’re trying to purchase the right size crate, etc. Thanks for your help! If you’d like to see pictures and videos of Riley, we’ve started a little blog as well at http://lebonchien.tumblr.com

    Thanks again,
    Sydney

Hi Sydney – I LOVE your blog. Riley is one lucky girl to becoming home to such an excited family! She is a real cutie, too 😉
I was just over three pounds when I came home to my new family at exactly eight weeks old. I wish I knew my birth weight, but unfortunately I do not. I am now almost 4 years old (my birthday is June 30th and my mom always makes a big deal of it with party hats and all!) and I weigh 18 pounds. My breeder had told my parents that I would be 10 – 15 pounds, she was wrong, haha! However my vet says that I am the perfect weight 🙂 My mom thinks I am pretty perfect, too!
Be sure to send a picture of Riley after you get her and I’ll put it up with the rest of my friends. I am so excited for you – you are going to looooove your Cavachon! Best Wishes!!!!!

That would have been AWESOME! I was born June 30, 2009. We still could be brothers, just not from the same litter. You might be my little brother, you never know.
Do you know your parents names?
    Do you look like me!

    Thanks for saying “hi” Marshy!

    Dear Kasey,
I like to run to my mommys grammas house across the street but my mommy doesnt like it when i go alone. she wants me to ask you how to break that habit.

PS I am also VERY cute

    [Reply]

    Kasey Replied:

Ooh – that is a very bad habit. I would want to go see my gramma too, though, epecially if she lived that close.

My parents put in an invisible fence (they did it themselves) and they are going to train me on it as soon as spring comes. I like to run to my next door neighbor’s house. My mom said it embarrassed her, especially when they had company. They were all so nice to me though!!!!!!!

    Kasey,
I just have a few questions for yiu my new Mom is picking me up in 2 days and I am a little nervous she has had puppies before but my new Dad has never had a puppy. My Mom made all kinds of promises about what she and I would do. Now she has changed my name from Bandit, I have a mask, to trouble because she thinks the 2 of us will be in trouble alot becausse someone told her we were hard to house traing. Do you have any suggestions for us? I guess she is going to use a crate which i hear I will eventually like, If you can help us so we aren’t in trouble all the time I would sure be happy.

Hi Bandit (aka Trouble) and Mary Kay! Hopefully you are having a great time together today! Congratulations on your new family! Cavachons are AWESOME and you will have so much fun together! Don’t worry, Dad will take one look at Bandit, even when he does something “bad” and his heart will melt and he will not be able to be mad!
It does seem that sometimes Cavachons are a little slow in the house-training department (but not always.) There are now several comments about it in the “Cavachon Review” section so maybe you will find some tips there.
Regarding the crate, I am now 2 years old, and my mom has always left my crate door open when she (or someone) is home. I often will go in there to nap, I love my “bed” as mom calls it. It is a very cozy, comfortable place for me. Sometimes when mom can’t find me, that is where I am at! At night I sleep in mom & dad’s bed. They started letting me do that when I was pretty well potty trained. I still go in my crate when no one is home, then they close the door. It is OK though, I don’t mind and even go there on my own when they tell me to. If am really tired, I will just stay there a while when they come home and say hello and open the door.
Be sure to send us pictures of Bandit! Congrats again on the new puppy and keep us posted as he grows and learns!

We are Cavachon brothers who were so cute that when our mom and dad came to see a goldendoodle and saw us instead they not only decided on a cavachon but took both of us home with them at 9 weeks old. Our mom is getting ready to retire the end of the summer and we will be moving to our “retirement” house on 11 acres which includes a small pond that we already have tested and love to get dirty in. We really love to run and chase each other, we get to sleep side by side and everybody seems to love us. (mostly because we are so cute and lovable)

    Hi Muffin!

So, you have been in your home for a little over a month now. Isn’t it great having a family to love you and pay all that attention to you?! I hope all is going well and you aren’t getting into too much trouble – growing up and learning all those rules is hard!

    Best Wishes,

p.s. Belly rubs are THE BEST 😀

    Hi Kasey,

I loved listening to my mom read about your trip home on the airplane. I also arrived from the breeder in Ohio via Continental Airlines to my new mom, dad and sister in New Jersey. That was just a few weeks ago on St. Patrick’s Day this year! Like you, I missed my sisters and brothers but with lots of love, cuddles and belly rubs from my new family, I’m right at home. I look forward to hearing more about you so keep writing about yourself. This is a great website just for us cavachons!

My name is Lacey and I’m going to be going on an airplane with my new mom in 4 weeks. I’m glad that my new mom has been reading all about you. I think I’m going to love living with her and my new daddy in California. You look so happy–I’m sure I’ll be happy too!

    Hi Lacey –
Welcome to Cavachon Cove! You are lucky that your mom is coming to get you, I had to fly alone. I bet you are just counting the days ’til then and I am sure your new parents are anxious and excited, too! It is so awesome having a new, loving home. My mommy had gotten me a nice, soft, stuffed doggy that was bigger than me (although she did not realize it would be.) I snuggled up to it alot when I went to sleep, it reminded me of my dog mom and made me feel good. Maybe your new mom or dad will do that for you!
Have a great trip home and let me know how it goes! Send me some pictures, too!
