I get many requests for help in finding a breeder. When I was looking for a puppy, I did not know where to start. The first thing I did was check the local dog pounds to see what they had. I called several and none of them had any puppies at the time. So, I started an “informational search” to see if I could determine what breed would be best for our family. I had actually thought the Cavalier King Charles sounded really good and while trying to find out as much information about them as I could I happened to stumble across something about a Cavachon. Well, one look at a picture of one and it was love at first sight! Besides looks, however, the breed we chose needed to have good qualities that fit our family and our lifestyle. The more I read about Cavachons, the more excited I got and knew for absolute certain that a Cavachon was the right dog for us.
Haircuts
If you have had your Cavachon for at least 6 months……probably 9 or more in most cases……your puppy has probably had a haircut by now or in need of one. I originally thought I would be performing that task myself, I even bought clippers. I have two boys that I had given haircuts to for a very long time. But, when the time came for a trim for Kasey, I was fearful of approaching this pooch with clippers! He was so darn cute, I just could not do it! I had been trimming his toenails all along, and had no problem with that. The haircut though, I (wisely) chickened out on! I found a local groomer, was very happy with her, and still use her to this day. We now are on a schedule of getting a haircut about every 9 weeks. Kasey looks cute with the long hair, but it gets difficult to keep up with, as the longer it gets the more frequent combing is required.

There have been several people who have asked about housebreaking their cavachon, specifically using the bell ringing technique.
When we first started to train Kasey to “go” outside, I had not heard of the bell technique. We got him when he was 8 weeks old. Since he was so tiny, and pottied so frequently, I tried getting him to use puppy pads. For us, that was just a joke! Kasey was confined to the kitchen area which had a vinyl floor. The pad would move all over when I tried to get him to stay on it – which in itself was a problem. When he was just roaming around, he would play with and chew the puppy pad! I could not have the pad around and also get him to only use it for its intended purpose!
I also very quickly had the realization that I really did not need to devote any time to trying to get him to use the pads. Our ultimate goal was to go outside to go potty, so why wouldn’t start with that as our potty destination from the very beginning?! I don’t think Kasey peed on one of the puppy pads even once, and in less than a day we ruled out that training method.
