Cavachon Picture Gallery
Here are some pictures of our Cavachon, Kasey. Because the Cavachon is a relatively unknown mixed breed, finding pictures of a Cavachon can be difficult. If you are unfamiliar with the breed and are looking for some images, hopefully this will be a good resource for you! We’d be happy to post pictures of your Cavachon! Send them in using our Contact Us page!

Where can I find a reputable breeder/store for cavachons in the New York tristate area? Anyone had any experience with Puppies of Westport or Burrow Kountry Kennel? Puppies of Westport ships their cavachons from Missouri from Burrow Kountry Kennel.

We just inherited one these adorable fun natured pups, even though he is almost 2yrs old. He is just soooo cuddlely and playful but very obedient to basic demands like sit no and use it. Even though he is all that, I cannot keep him, and yes he is very affectionate and playful around children sort of hyper…but in a good way after he has bunrned some energy he is ready to relax and listen soft music. If you’re looking for a great companion to any Good Home, I would love to hear from you, if you’re in Atlanta.

I have a 3 month old cavachon puppy who has recently started to dig quite s bit. I was wondering if this is a trait that she will outgrow. So far this is the only destructive trait that she exhibits. Other than that she is sweet and ridiculously cute. How can I keep her from wanting to dig so much?

I have a 2 year old Cavashon who also was a real digger. It was challenging to get her to stop. I had to be really quick to stop her and chase her away from the hole and she would go right back as soon as I turned my back. I finally resorted to one of the electronic behavior collars from PetSmart that had a vibrate option (I didn’t like the option of shocking her). I only had to use it a couple of times when I caught her digging and it startled her— the habit was broken. The ongoing problem is she brings me a rock some quite large and others small every time she goes into the yard. I save them in a jar and dump them over the fence when it’s full. Other than that she is a wonderful pet, smart as can be. Housebroken within the first 10 days (few accidents if left too long), will sit, lie, shake hands and go night night on command. Great with grandchildren. Can now be left for 8-10 hours without accidents. Only chews her own toys.

When my babies were about 2 to 7 months I had potholes in my front yard. I tried everything, removing them from the crime scene, averting their attention, changing locations, sand/litter box to dig, etc. The only thing I found that worked was to fill the holes with their own feces. As they don’t generally tend to like the smell, they will leave the area. I had a lot of grass patching to do but a year later and my lawn looks back to amazing. I hope this works if all else fails.

I have a 6 month old Cavachon bitch and a 4 1/2 month old Cavachon dog. They are both fabulous little dogs. I love them dearly. Both of their parents where tri coloured Cavaliers ( mother) and Bichon (dad). I have not seen such beautiful colours in any other Cavachon`s as yet.I intend on breeding them when the bitch is old enough so they will be F2`s and i am very much looking forward to seeing how the pups ( if successful) turn out. The bitch has a soft wavy long haired coat with red, black, tan and white colours in it and has a Cavalier shape face and the dog has exactly the same colourings but has a Bichon coat and his face shape is like a Bichon to. The only question i have is. Can my dog get my bitch pregnant even though he is only 4 1/2 months old, as she came into season yesterday. If so what should i do about it as i do not want her to get pregnant until she has had a least 2/3 seasons.

I have a Cavachon myself. She is the sweetest, kindest, cutest little girl in the world. She cuddles in bed with me and follows me around. Everyone loves her and she is such a ham when company comes over. She loves people and loves to be held. Her name is Carrie Bradshaw and she is a spoiled girl. I would never trade her for anything.

We lost our precious 10yr old cavachon dog,Cavy on Valentine’s day. He died suddenly of congestive heart failure. Like many Cavachons he had congenital mitral valve disease which enlarged his heart. He was so loving
and sweet…He could beg while turning his head and licking his lips in anticipation of a milk bone. We empty-nesters loved him like family and were devastated by his sudden passing. He looked identical to Kasey with the same degree of color to white hair. Would we get another
Cavachon? Yes, except for the fact that one of our grandsons was allergic to Cavy. Thanks, Paul

I am very sorry for your loss.
I also want to comment on a couple of your statements, particularly the one that says
“Like many Cavachons he had congenital mitral valve disease which enlarged his heart.”
Saying “like many Cavachons” is not an accurate statement at all. Cavachon dogs are known for having good health and do not suffer from a lot of serious health problems. On the other hand, many purebreds do tend to have problems with structural and congenital problems, but that is typically not the case with Cavachons.
Cavachons can inherit health problems that are prevalent in both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise. For example, the leading cause of death in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is Mitral Valve Disease, which can lead to congestive heart failure. If the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent had heart problems, then it is likely its Cavachon offspring can inherit such heart problems as well. The Bichon Frise, even though considered to be a healthy breed, can suffer from diseases to the immune system.
Prospective owners must make sure they investigate the parentage thoroughly to be fully aware of any possible health problems – this is why finding a reputable breeder who has done genetic testing on the parents is so important. With good care, a Cavachon should do quite well with few health problems at all.
Also, it is too bad that your grandson was allergic to Cavy. Cavachons are one of the dogs that are bred to be hypo-allergenic. Most people do find this to be true and many families with a member that has a dog allergy are able to welcome a Cavachon in to the family.

We have a 3 month old Cavachon-totally besotted ! She came to us w/ a case of kennel cough. She has been on medicine for that. The cough has subsided (I think) but she is wheezing & hacking after she runs around on a walk or in our yard…I was concerned & took her to the vet who did a barium swallow to assess her esophagus (sp?)- normal. I called the breeder and she said she believes it is the tail-end (no pun intended) of the kennel cough, which can ast a long time. Anyone have a issue with hacking/wheeing with thier puppy?

I noticed that your cavachon kasey got lighter in colour as he got a bit older . When did he start to change ? We have a blenheim 6 month old cavachon leo and he has got the same colouring as picture number 11 . Kasey is so cute !

You are absolutely right – he did get much lighter as he grew. It was one of those things where you see him every day and you don’t really notice it. One day, you are thinking about what he looked like back when you first got him, and you realize- wow – what happened? I have no idea if this happens in all Cavachons or not.
If I had to really think about when he started changing it was not until after we started getting him groomed. For Kasey, I did not take him to a groomer until he was about 7 or 8 months old. I just thought that his long hair was so cute! When it got unmanageable, it was time! After that, it seemed as though each time I picked him up, his peach coloring was less and less noticeable, even on his ears which were quite dark at one time.
By a year and a half old or so, his coloring was pretty much like it is now.
You’ll have to keep me posted about whether your puppy changes or not!

I had a Bichon growing up and the same thing happened. She had “butterscotch” ears and a spot on her back, but faded until it was VERY faint. It might just be a puppy-adult trait like a Lion cub’s spots.

Yes, they do tend to have the tear staining. There are products on the market to prevent/get rid of it. You can do some research on that – however, they are pretty expensive. We used angel’s eyes for a while and it did work. As Kasey got older, the staining seemed to diminish. I had quit using the angel’s eyes because I worried about giving it to him for a long period of time. I is supposed to be completely safe, but I still had concerns.
Best wishes with your new puppy! Send us a picture!

RESCUE PEOPLE RESCUE .. I spend half my life pulling puppies out of kill shelters, yes some pure breeds too. Millions of dogs are put to death, why buy when you can save a life and have a friend for life. Rescue dogs are forever thankful!
Also, if you bought a puppy from an Ohio shop, chances are you bought a puppy mill dog.
Last thing, if you bought a dog that is less then 12 weeks old, it was sold way to soon. Anybody can call themselves a breeder. Again ..
RESCUE, RESCUE RESCUE ..

Everyone knows about rescues!!! You don’t need to go around ranting about it! If someone wants a rescue dog they will get one!!!!! I agree that puppies should be sold at 8 weeks+ but its not like your doing something wrong if you don’t get a dog/puppy from a rescue, other puppies need homes too!

I think rescuing a puppy is such a great & lovable thing to do,tho remember when an owner is looking for distinctive traits, rescuing is too risky. Adopting a True Cavachon the owner needs to be sure that one parent is a CKCS and the other parent is a Bichon Frise,if not, the pup can lose some of their lovable traits.I can donate to shelters but I cant rescue, Please accept my apology.

We looked into rescues but most won’t adopt to a family with children under age of 6, which to me is unreasonable.

I need a calm little dog. I fell and broke my hip and had to give up my very active little Papillon. That really hurt. I am 91 next week. I need a little dog in my life living in a little apt.
Do you by ahance have a little older dog for less money? I don’t know how long I will live but I need a dog to love and talk too, and walk. In two months I will be up on a cane and considered “cured.” zi need a Cavachon. Please answer me. Thank you.

We too have a Cavachon Sophi who is 10 months old whom I flew out to Century Farms in Iowa to pick up and fly her home on the plane with me. She is amazing and so smart – potty trained for outdoors by ringing the bell. My cousin has a Cavachon and when I saw him as a 3 year old – he still looked like an adorable puppy. The only disappointment I had was we got pictures of her with the beautiful coloring of sable and white but unfortunately that goes away and now she is mostly white with some apricot but her ears are still some sable and some on the tail – but she still has her cute face we fell in love with. She too loves sofa cushions! Love Her – no shedding – no barking – fun and playful and loves her play dates with her buddies!

I live in Long Island, NY and have been combing the internet to find Cavachon breeders nearby. Would you mind sharing with me how you acquired your dog and what your experience has been? Did you get her shipped to you from a breeder?
Thanks so much for your help. I can be reached at ckbenedetti@verizon.net.

Hi Carolynn. I live in Middletown NJ and we went to the American Puppy Club which specializes in mixed designer breeds. WE had been looking for a cavachon or cavashu and they told us they had one that was just shipped in from a breeder in Ohio at their other store. They showed us some pics of her and her brother, and we liked the female. We met her and it was love at first sight!! She will be 5 months next week and we absolutely love her!!!! She is a wonderful dog and she is already completely wee wee pad trained at this point. Now we will start transitioning her to go outside with the nice weather.

My fiance and I just purchased a female cavachon 4 weeks ago. She will be 3 months old next week. She is so lovable and friendly. We started wee-wee pad training her bc it was very cold and snowy in NY when we got her. She has gotten very familiar with her wee wee pad which I have close to the front door (occassional accidents still occur if we aren’t watching her or give her to much free roam) We wanted to start transitioning her to going outdoors. Do you have any tips? I saw on some sites cavachons tend to be hard to housetrain. And already I notice she hates being on the leash. Any help from fellow cavachon owners will be appreciated!! Thanks Nicole
