  1. Has anyone purchased a dog of any type from Briarthorn Designer Puppies in Akron, Ohio? This is going to be our first dog and we are exploring our options (As we are from Michigan).

  2. Hi Everyone:
My wife and I were lucky to have our Cavachon Baxter adopt us and make our house his forever home.

We adopted Baxter from Raintree Kennel in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Baxter in the 3 years since his adoption has been great. He is a very friendly dog and gets along well with other dogs in the area (he has several friends). He does have a bit of a “Napoleon Complex” when it comes to strange dogs.

    Regards,
    Bill

  4. Hi: I have fallen in love with two cavachons that have adopted two of my friends. Please let me know when you will have some puppies available. I would like a male. We are in Waynesville,NC.

  6. Hi
My cavachon is a huge chewer. I would like to fill her kong toy with something besides the kong spray bottle. Any suggestions? I am concerned about stomach problems so I want something safe and natural.

  7. I also have a cavachon frm century farms. He is 8months old now and doing so great!! Great experience with century farms highly recommend them.

  8. Hi everyone! I haven’t gotten my puppy yet because he was just born a few weeks ago & I had to give him some time to be ready to leave his family. My cavachon is a boy & his name is louie, he’s my first puppy baby ever & I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or helpful tips! All would be greatlyy appreciated!:)

  9. I just bought a cavashon from century farms. I went there in person and it was a pleasant experience! My puppy is adorable, loving and is going potty outside already and we got her just a few days ago!

  10. Been looking for a cava poo chon. Seems to only be one breeder in the country. Any one, know of any others?
Our alternative is a cava poo or cava chon… When I read about names on the web site I then found a rather disconcerting review of Century Farms. Does any one else know of a problem with this breeder or how they compare to Burrow Kountry Kennels? I once got a pup from a mill, unwittingly. He was the most vicious biting puppy. I finally found out about this place, and was able to return the puppy, but it was a terribly challenging experience.
Would really appreciate help from anyone that can steer us in the right direction. Thanks so much.

  11. I would like to get a cavachon puppy. I live in northern CT. I would prefer to use a local breeder if I can. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  12. I love my cavachon! He is so sweet! He loves to cuddle up on the couch with us and just be as close to you as possible. He does shed a little but nothing major. I just love him.
His name is Comet. He’s 17 months old and about 10 lbs.

  13. Hi Matthew – You do know that you do not get the same qualities from breeding a cavachon to a cavachon. You must breed a cavalier to a bichon to get the non shed and the look of the cavachon. For some reason you lose some of those qualities breeding cavachon to cavachon. If you do a little research you can find out al kinds of info on the internet.

  14. Hey all! I have a four month old male Cavachon. Best dog ever. Looking to breed him in the coming months. I’m in the northern part of CT. Anyone in the area interested?

  15. Hi,
This is Kristy from Silver Paw Cavachons (formerly Silver Paw Kennels). We welcome visitors! Also, you can check our Facebook page, Silver Paw Kennels for lots of feedback from others that have our puppies!

I was doing a google search to see if my website came up, and found this conversation:)

  16. Did you ever find a review of Silver Paw Kennels? We live in the Seattle area and are looking for a reputable breeder ourselves, one we could visit. We would also drive to Oregon.

  17. Curious as to why you don’t recommend this breeder…. I have been in touch with her and she seems great!! Thanks

  18. there is a cavachon breeder in Dundee NY. I don’t know there name, but If you call Holley’s Hounds in Horseheads & ask for Holly… she could tell you the name & number. That’s how I got my wonderful best friend Charlie. Good luck!

  19. Hi Chris, I went to the Rosegate Kennel website to look at the puppies and I noticed that they didn’t have any prices listed. Do you know how much they charge for their cavachons?

  20. Does anyone know of a reputable Cavachon breeder in the New York/Connecticut/New Jersey area?

  21. Pam – so glad you emailed me! I can’t wait for you to come and meet the pups. All are so sweet and special.
    Thanks,
    Jennifer

  22. Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for this post. Our Cavachon Bailey passed away on May 24th 2013 due to heart failure and we are lost without her.

We are on the lookout another Cavachon and I sent a email to Hambone Acres. We are planning a visit in the next few weeks and hope to have our new Cavachon soon.

Thanks again for listing the informaiton here.

    Pam

  23. Hello everyone!
We have started our search for a Cavachon we live in NJ. We started talking to a few mentioned above but if anyone has anyone they can recommend it would be so helpful. Please email me nik0621@comcast.net

  24. I’m looking for a breeder in the Northeast. We are in Upstate NY and close to the Massachusetts border. Can anyone make any recommendations?

  25. We have a new puppy from 4everpuppies in Arizona and she is great. She had a great vet checkup. Vet was very impressed with the breeder. We were fortunate enough to meet the puppy and family ahead of time even though we live out of state.

  26. Hi Jana, it was not Century Farms and I really do not know anything about them. The breeder that I got Kasey from is unfortunately no longer breeding Cavachons. It was a husband and wife and sadly the husband passed away. The wife did not continue breeding dogs on her own.

  27. Hi Lori, I”m looking for a Cavachon for my parents and like many on this blog am struggling to find the right breeder. I see that you got your sweet Kasey from a breeder in Iowa. I’m currently looking at a breeder in Iowa and wondered if it is the same breeder. Did you happen to get Kasey at Century Farm Puppies? Just curious the name of your breeder since you seemed to be so pleased with the outcome! Thanks for your help.
    Jana

  28. I would like to rescue either a Cavachon or a Havachon but have had no success in finding any to rescue. Does anyone have any suggestions I live in West Virginia

  29. Hi Jenn – would you mind sharing what shelter you found your puppy at? I am hoping to rescue. Thank you!!

  30. Buyer beware of this breeder. I cannot speak for everyone but I had a horrible experience with this breeder. Most important word of advice I van give after this horrible lesson is to only buy from a breeder in your state.

  31. I have been researching a cavachon for the past few months and I am extremely interested in purchasing one. I have found a few breeders I like but I need some help finding a good breeder close enough to me that I can pick him up. I live in Southern California. I am willing to drive to Oregon, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona. Can anybody reccomend a breeder close to me?

  32. I love the term “Bichon Blitz!” Finally a name for it! Kasey still has those episodes where he runs around like crazy every now and then and we just stand back and laugh. After a little while, he usually plops down and takes a power nap!!!

  33. Also, the peeing whilst playing could be excitement. Does is squat while dong it or does it seem to just come out without him knowing? Bella does it when people get all excited when they greet her. It’s not a potty training thing. Bella is growing out of it a bit now and only does it now and then but at around 12 weeks it was all the time. As he gets less excitable and more confident it will get better.

    Hope this helps

  34. Hi. Spencer sounds just like my Bella. She goes totally nutty in the evening, charging round and jumping all over the place. Everything you have said it normal. You are doing the right thing by turning your back on him when he gets a bit too much. It’s still early days with toilet training. Bella is 17 weeks and is doing well. At 12 weeks he still doesn’t have much warning that he is going to himself, he will get it. It sounds like you are doing well.

I know what hard work it is. Even having three kids hasn’t prepared my for having a puppy…..it’s off the charts crazy!

You sound like you are doing all the right things. Trust me is gets easier every week.

  35. We visited this breeder today and the place was filthy. The outdoor “cages” had several inches of feces in them and the dogs were “playing” in it. The porch and the entry way to their kennel was also covered in feces. We decided it was not worth the chance that the puppy would have some sort of illness, worms, etc. We’re still looking, and hope to find the right puppy soon.

  36. Thank you in advance for your advice. I live in Oregon and have only found one cavachon breeder on the west coast in Washington. Does anyone have any reviews on Silver Paw Cavachons?

  37. Our cavachon is also very skittish with strangers. I thought we did a good job of socializing him as a puppy but he is fairly fearful of meeting new people. The ones he knows, he loves! The best thing to do is to have people ignore him until he approaches them. Farley really prefers other dogs to people 🙂

  38. Hi all,
I love this site! It’s also so nice to see our little guy Spencer up on the site. He was only 8-weeks old and we had just gotten him home in that pic. It’s crazy how much he’s grown in 4 weeks!
I just wanted to share our family’s joy in having our little guy in our life. Spencer is 12-weeks old and is so adorable! He is a puppy and exhibits some behaviors that aren’t great but I’m convinced they are just puppy-stuff. Spencer is a mouther at play. He seems to do this more with me than anyone else in the family. We will be on the floor playing, tugging or fetching and he’ll randomly try to attack my arms by jumping and biting. It’s not hard bites and his tail is wagging but he gets very intense in the play and I have to try to correct him. At this point, I turn him on his back and restrain him by his armpits. He does not enjoy this but it keeps him from biting (although he tries). He calms down and then is the sweet lovable little guy again anxious to play fetch.

Does anyone else see this in their pups?

Spencer is also a bit of a circus dog. He leaps into the air when he is excited and does little flips backwards. He tries to launch himself at the couch but he is still too little to get up on his own. He goes through phases (often at night) when he goes crazy (we call him coojoe dog) where he runs around, does laps and leaps at everything. It is funny to watch and I’ve been told it’s the Bichon in him (someone called it a Bichon Blitz).

Spencer is being crate trained and things are going well. My husband works from home so Spencer gets out of “his room” 3 times during the work day. Two 15-20 minute run/potty breaks around 10:30 and 3:30 and he’s out for lunch for an hour. Otherwise, Spencer is out with us from 6-8 AM and after 5 or so other than a quick catnap around 6:30-7. He sleeps calmly and quietly in his crate almost all night now (10 PM-6 AM).

We still have some accidents in the house and I’m kind of concerned about this. During play, he’ll do a sneaky pee even as soon as 15 minutes after he’s been out and peed. I know he can hold it and I just wish I could judge that he’ll pee during play. We do not reprimand, just take him quickly out and treat him when he goes outside. Sometimes he’s so sneaky that we don’t catch him in the act even though he’s only in one large room for play and constantly supervised.
    Any other potty-training stressed parents?

He does not indicate that he has to go unless it’s number 2 and that’s only occasionally. He runs to every door/baby gate that is not the one we ALWAYS go out to go potty and leaps at the ways out. We think this is his indicator as we gather him up and get him out. He has always pooped after these episodes.

Even though there are pupp-things that are difficult and I have had to exhibit more patience than I’ve ever had to, I would not trade my little guy for anything. He is so snuggley and lovable. He loves to give kisses and burrows into a small space just to be near you. He is so silly and I sware is a mix between a circus dog and lion cub. He bats at things with his paws like a cat, loves to pounce after creeping up on a toy and leaps into the air at crazy heights! He’s a wonderful fit for our family.

Thanks for all the support and fellowship!

    Warmly,
    Leslie and Spencer

  39. Farley is 2 1/2 and still loves to chew. He loves Nylabones! We also have the black Kong for extreme chewers. He destroyed two of the red ones!

  40. This is a great site! We got Cassie from a local rescue group in April–she literally jumped in my lap so I figured she picked me! I had no idea what kind of dog she was and searched the internet with traits and looking at photos. Finally, there was an article about “designer” dogs with Cavachon photos and descriptions–a perfect match! We LOVE Cassie, she is so sweet and has quite a personality. I bought a dog bed for Cassie the day she came home–but she was nervous so she “asked” to sleep in our bed. I ultimately returned the never-used dog bed, LOL. After a long day, I love to get in bed with Cassie curled up next to me and we watch TV. Cassie loves her walks, her toys, other dogs, and treats. And I know Cassie loves us because she sits on our laps and literally gives “hugs” by laying her head on our shoulders. We are lucky!

  41. I hope someone can give you some advice. Cavachons are such “people pups” that I am surprised. Hopefully it is some sort of phase, like babies have, and it will end soon 🙂

  42. Hi i love this website seeing as i can relate with other cavachon owners 🙂 i have a six month old cavachon named Lucky. She’s 11 pounds and she’s super sweet and adorable. Usually she loves people, strangers and all. WHen we’re going on a walk she wants to meet every living creature there is. but lately she’s been acting really weird. We recently took her to my grandma’s house for Christmas and she was super scared of them and would hide behind us whenever they came near. On walks, she’s at first excited to meet people, then runs away and is too scared to meet them. I don’t know whats up, she’s never had a traumatizing experience to make her scared like that. Has anybody else had this problem? please help!
