Giving a Cavachon a Bath

Cavachon Bath

My mom always makes bath day out to be such a big deal! Really, it is not.

I get combed first (which, now that I think about it, she combs me for a little while almost every evening for about 3 days before bath day.)   That is good.  As a Cavachon, I have both straight and curly hair.  My mom has found that if I am nice and combed before my bath, I look and feel much better after!

The biggest piece of advice I would give about bath time, being a Cavachon,  is that you have to be careful about making sure you don’t get any water in my ears!!!  My Cavachon dog ears are a lot like my Cavalier dad’s ears and are long and floppy.  Water gets trapped there very easily, which can cause some problems for me in the future if I just leave it in there!

  1. My first bath was at 8 weeks old – the day I got to my new home. I had been travelling all day and stuck a crate. I smelled pretty bad by the time I got to Ohio. After some snuggling and calm time, I got a bath. I didn’t mind it too much!

After that, I got bathed any time I got myself really dirty!

  2. To stop water from getting into my Cavachon’s ears, I use swimmer’s earplugs. They work great. I need to trim them a bit so they fit her ears. I pushed them just a tiny bit so it stays put in her ears. She never complains about it, and her inner ears stay dry. I just use a baby facecloth to clean her ears. She gets her ears cleaned at the groomers every 2-3 months.

  3. That’s right gill I have a Cavachon and he is a bundle of joy ang I normally just clean the inside of his ears with a tissue or some cotton wall as water can cause hearing proberlems as it has effected the ear system.

  4. I found that keeping the fur on the bum really short,so there’s less fur to cling too, also i use baby wipes just in case.

  5. There is no way you can stop water getting in the ears but,use a cotton wool pad to clean and dry inside the ear, but don’t push too far in.

  6. How does one keep from getting the ears wet? I just gave my puppy a bath. Was not sure what to do-anything special?? He had some poo stuck to his fur. Tanner is 12 weeks old, any suggetions for that? I really didn’t want his puppy coat cut yet.

  7. How often can I bathe my cavachon to make sure she stays clean, but not damaging to her skin and coat?
