Recently, one of my Cavachon eyes became a very red color.  Everyone noticed it and wondered what was up.  Then, I started rubbing the eye with my paw and also would try to rub it on the carpet.  Each day, this behavior increased.  After a few days, my eye started to kind of ooze an icky grayish gunk.  Yeah, I know, gross.  Well, of course, as luck would have it, this was now Friday afternoon.  Somewhat panic stricken and feeling really bad for ignoring this problem, my mom turned to the internet in search of what to do to comfort me until Monday when she could call the vet (apparently she did not see this as an emergency even though my dad worried about me going blind =:o )

On Mother’s Day (5-9-10) I went on this really long car ride.  It was about 50 miles to my grandma’s place.  The ride started out odd as I was in the back seat with mom.  My dad was driving and my uncle was in the passenger seat, which is where I usually sit.  My mom volunteered to take the back seat and I sat with her.

Cavachon in Basket

My groomer’s name is Susan.  She is a very nice lady.  My mom had no idea where to take me when I needed my first trim.  She thought that she would be able to do this herself; after all she had been cutting my toe nails!  But, she came to find that I would never be still enough for her to give me a haircut.  So, she asked my veterinarian for advice about where to take a Cavachon for grooming.  He suggested Susan because he knew her pets and they looked good and were happy animals.

Groomed Cavachon

I usually experience this adventure about every 8 weeks.   I know that a lot of Cavachons – and most other dogs, too – really hate going to the groomer, but so far I am OK with it.  Maybe that is because by the time I go my hair is hanging in my eyes and is so long that when I get combed it seems to take forever.  I get all these tangles, especially in my “pits” or whatever you want to call those areas at the top of my legs and arms.  It hurts sometimes when my mom is trying to get them out! She has started using a comb just like the one she uses on her eyelashes and that has made things a lot better!  My groomer, Susan, has started to cut the hair there real short and that really helps, too.  No one can  even tell (except me and my mom when I am getting combed).  This is one of the Cavachon tricks we have learned over time.  Maybe other dogs would be happier with this technique, too!  I can’t believe that Cavachons are the only dogs with tangled pits!

Cavachon Going Home

Ready to ride to my new home after a long day of flying

This is the beginning of my blog, so I thought I would start at the beginning…….

I was born in Altoona, Iowa.  My mom, a Bichon Frise, was Belinda.  My Dad, a King Charles Cavalier, was Xavior.  I really don’t remember either of them or the place that I was born.  Everything that I know from my early weeks I have learned from my adoptive parents, Lori and Greg (henceforth referred to as “mom” and “dad.”)

I was adopted over the internet – can you believe that!?  I am told that I was chosen from many Cavachon puppies in many locations because I looked like I had that “special something.”  Something drew my new family to me, and I have to tell you, it was a perfect fit!

cavachon-review

While doing some research before deciding to get my Cavachon, I found that it was very hard to find any real reviews or other information from actual owners of Cavachons.  In order to help others better understand what to expect from the Cavachon breed, I have written a review based on my personal experiences with my own Cavachon!
